Willie Anderson enjoyed a distinguished career as a soloist dancer with Ballet San Jose, where he spent an impressive 14 years performing on both national and international stages. His artistry and versatility allowed him to deliver acclaimed interpretations of renowned ballet classics, including "Swan Lake" and "Romeo and Juliet." Additionally, he excelled in dramatic works by notable choreographers such as Agnes de Mille, Dennis Nahat, Flemming Flint, Donald McKayle, and Waverly Lucas II.
Following his retirement from dancing in 2010, Anderson transitioned into education at Guangxi University in China. His expertise led to his appointment as ballet master for the Chongqing Ballet Company, where he focused on enriching the local community through ballet. He developed and implemented programs that featured his own syllabus, which greatly advanced the ballet education offered there.
In 2017, Anderson returned to the United States, reintroducing a repertoire that included timeless classical ballets alongside innovative contemporary works, thus bridging traditional and modern dance. Throughout his career, he has shared his knowledge and skills with various ballet companies, including the Cleveland San Jose Ballet, Ballet San Jose, and the Chongqing Ballet Company. Currently, he is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of dancers at Ballethnic Dance Company.
In a significant step towards promoting diversity and inclusivity in the arts, Anderson established the Atlanta National Ballet Theatre in 2024. This theatre aims to present a diverse array of performances encompassing classical, neoclassical, and contemporary ballet, fully reflecting the rich cultural diversity of Atlanta's communities.
